The Denison Police Department has been selected as the recipient of this year’s grant, valued at $10,500. This award marks a pivotal moment in enhancing the resources available to the dedicated officers of Denison and the community they serve.
The grant will provide a custom K9 upfit for their 2023 Ford F-150, that will house the new K9 that the agency is working to add to their ranks. The Denison Police Department has not had a working K9 in over six years, but now, through this grant and other fundraising efforts, they are excited to be able to bring the K9 program back to the community.
“Bringing back the K9 program would be a sense of pride for our agency,” said Tony Trejo, Denison Chief of Police. “Our officers know the value in adding this specialty to our departemnt, showing that we are looking to be proactive in the world of law enforcement. And knowing that our community wants to invest in our officers and our agency shows that our city truly cares. I always say, ‘Without our community, we have nothing.”
As an employee-owned company, KELTEK believes in giving back to those on the frontlines who help keep their communities safe. This year’s KELTEK Cares campaign, the KELTEK K9 Unit Grant, is a small token of their appreciation to the men, women, and K9s who serve the larger community.
“We are thrilled to award our second K9 Unit grant to Chief Trejo and the Denison Police Department,” said Larry Kolontar, President of KELTEK, Inc. “We are proud to be a small part of helping them bring a K9 program back to the community which will allow them to only better serve the great citizens of Denison.”
